Product Description

This Black acrylic Mustang Bass PJ Upgrade is for instruments with PJ pickups. You can choose either our T2-Switch to give you 6 pickup tones or our T3PJ-Switch to give you 21 pickup tones on your Player Jaguar Bass or similar instrument projects with PJ pickup coil configuration.

Now you can Soup Up your Mustang Bass PJ to get more pickup tone power and also increase your creativity and versatility with additional fresh new pickup tones.

Your stock bass is designed to give you a modest and inadequate 3 pickup tones. Don't you think it's worth a few dollars more to get a Grand Canyon Wide range of Blues, Jazz, Metal, Surf, Country — plus the dozens of new and different pickup tones your stock bass simply cannot produce?

This EZ Install high performance upgrade gives you the ultimate in performance at the lowest cost.

Customer Comments:
"After installing this upgrade in my bass, I stayed up all night playing it." — Alvin Sears

"I am SO pleased with the upgrade. The standard volume blend controls is an 8-pack of Crayolas when compared to your upgrade which is the 98-pack with built in sharpener. I now have colors I didn't even know I wanted. Do I need EACH of the additional tones? No, of course not; but there are many new tones which, now that I have heard them, I cannot live without. The next time I buy a bass, your products will be that instrument's first upgrade!" — Branden Garner

How It Works

Using our T2-Switch, you can

  1. Turn the Bridge pickup On,
  2. Turn the Neck pickup On,
  3. Turn the Bridge AND Neck pickups On in Parallel connection and in Normal Phase
(the above three pickup tones are what you get with the stock 3-way blade switch.)

(the below three pickup tones are ones that you cannot get with your stock instrument.)

  4. Turn the Bridge AND Neck pickups On in Parallel connection and in Reverse Phase
(gives you a glass-shattering country twang tone you can't get with the stock instrument.)

  5. So with Switch SW5 in the Down position, you get the four pickup tones described above. You can turn on the Bridge pickup by itself, the Neck pickup alone, both the Bridge and Neck pickup together (in normal phase), as well as the Bridge and Neck pickup together (in reverse phase).

When you put Switch SW5 in the Up position, you get the following two additional pickup tones with both pickups connected in Series. This gives you a warmer and more humbucking Jazz tone, that you just cannot get with your stock instrument.

  6. When you turn on both the Bridge AND Neck pickups On in Series and in Normal Phase
(gives you a Humbucker-like Jazz tone you can't get with the stock instrument.)

  7. With both the Bridge AND neck pickups On in Series connection and in Reverse Phase
(gives you an intense country twang tone you can't get with the stock instrument.)

You get six pickup tones with this upgrade.   < Less

To Install The T3PJ Upgrade

Simple pickup rewiring is needed with this upgrade. You will cut the wire that connects the two "P" coils and attach extra wire (supplied) using the included solderless terminal connectors. This separates the "P" pickup into two separate pickup coils. Use an ohmmeter to confirm that the wires connected to the pickups read continuity. Once rewiring is completed,

  1. You connect your pickup wires to the green solderless terminal strip
  2. You connect your output jack wires to the marked wires on this product
  3. You mount the upgrade and start exploring all the pickup tones now available to you.

How The T3PJ-Switch Works

The T3PJ-Switch contains five mini-toggle switches (from rear-to-front): (SW1, SW4, SW2, SW5, SW3)

These switches are used to control the Bridge ("J" / coil-1) pickup, and the Middle/Neck ("P" / coil-2 and coil-3) pickup coils.

SW1 is an ON-OFF-ON switch used to turn the Bridge "J" (Jazz Bass) pickup coil-1 Off and On. The middle position of this switch is Off. The Down position turns the pickup On (in normal-phase) and the Up position turns the pickup on (in reverse-phase).

SW4 is an ON-ON switch used to put the Bridge "J" and "P" pickup coils in either a Parallel connection or Series Connection. Down is Parallel, and Up is Series. When Down, the "J" pickup (coil-1) or the "P" pickup coils (coil-2 and coil-3) can be turned On either separately or together. When Up, both PJ pickup coils MUST be in an On position (see SW1 and SW2) or no sound will be produced.

SW2 is an ON-OFF-ON switch used to put the "P" pickup coils (coil-2 and coil-3) On. The middle position of this switch is Off. The Down position turns the "P" pickup coils On. When Down, the "P" pickup coils can be further controlled by SW5 and SW3 using the rules described for these switches. The Up position is non-functional. (if SW4 is Up, this switch must be On)

SW5 is an ON-ON switch used to put the "p" pickup coils (i.e., coil-2 and coil-3) in Parallel connection or Series Connection. When Down, the two coils are in Parallel connection. When Up, the two coils are in Series connection.

SW3 is an ON-ON switch used to change the phasing of the "P" pickup coils (i.e., coil-2 and coil-3). Down puts the coils in normal-phase and Up position puts the pickup in reverse-phase.

You get 21 pickup tones with this upgrade.   < Less
